Appeal for the 2026 International Meeting against war

20 June 2026 – London, UK

The wolf is at the door.

We know the face of war after the genocide in Palestine, watched live by millions. That genocide continues because of the complicity of western governments who refuse to take the action that could halt it.

Those same governments have actively worked against peace in the war in which 1.5 million Ukrainians and Russians lie dead or wounded. They now constantly increase NATO military spending and are beginning to enlist the youngest to throw them into the jaws of disaster.

Talk of war has become active preparation for war the length and breadth of Europe. Working people are seeing the money that should be spent on repairing their broken health care system, transport facilities, education and housing swept away into the bottomless pockets of the arms manufacturers, whose profits increase at a rate faster than ever before.

Families that have not known military conscription for generations now listen in fear as military leaders and politicians warn that their sons and daughters must be prepared to fight and die.

The false promise of industrial jobs in the arms industry is a trap for the working class. These weapons are the most inefficient job creatures but they are the most effective life takers. They will tear apart the bodies of the young on battlefields whose horrors will be greater than the worst we have ever seen.

As French writer Anatole France said at the time of the First World War: “You think you are dying for your country, you are dying for industrialists”.

The wolf is at the door and we must raise the alarm. It is the duty of every citizen, but especially the duty of the labour movement, to defend peace, freedom of speech and protest, and jobs that are useful to the society and for the planet. It is our task to say to the new warlords, we will not pay for, nor accept, rearmament that imperils our world.

We say lower your guns and raise our wages, welfare not warfare, jobs not conscription.

At the Paris anti-war conference of October 2025, attended by thousands of ordinary citizens, trade unionists, political and peace activists, we began to raise the alarm and to organise for peace.

Building on that success and the resistance of the peoples already repulsed the face of war, and the racist divisions it breeds, we are meeting again in an international rally in London on 20th June 2026. We invite every student and worker, every trade unionist and anti-war activist to attend.

We will not accept the descent into chaos and war that is the only achievement of the Trump Presidency. We reject the warmongering of the European leaders who supported the military aggression against Venezuela. We affirm our solidarity with the people of Venezuela and the people of all the countries threatened by Trump and his allies. We demand the release of the President of Venezuela and his wife, who were abducted by the US government.

US President Donald Trump, the emperor of the new war drive, has his international networks of far-right war mongers and chauvinists. He is appeased by the heads of government in Europe, and far beyond Europe.

We must create our own international network which will organize for peace, oppose the revitalised US imperial project, and fight for the livelihood, indeed the very lives, of working people.

We want peace. We say no to rearmament, no to conscription, and yes to well funded health, education and public services, decent jobs, and higher wages.

Hundreds of signatories from 22 countries have already joined the appeal: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Palestine, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine.

The mobilisation continues, and this list will be updated regularly.

Join us in London on 20th June 2026, noon Westminster Central Hall
